It can be confusing to wake up and not know where you are. It can be disorienting when someone has to give you bad news. But its damn well overwhelming to wake up in a mine shaft a thousand years in the future and find out you are the living dead when some pecker starts screaming and shooting you and you want to know is whats going on!
Maybe I'm a little sore bout that last point.
Don't know how I got down there, don't know if I will ever find out. But someone brought me down there on purpose, you don't just bring a bunch of corpses and scientifical equipment down into a hidden cave system because you are bored.
When I woke up I had a ringing headache from hell and the worst cotton mouth you could ever imagine. Cobwebs and a thousand years of dust does that to a person. Anyway I must of scared this fella starts hollering all kinds of crazy and all I can do is hack up dirt. I shut him up but imagine my surprise when I manage to survive three shots to the chest while I do.
The crawl out of the whole is pretty boring. As is the rest of the story.
You can imagine my consternation. The land is familiar but different. The people are very different. And the entire time I am still trying to come to grips with my previous mortality and new state of being.
Don't know how long I wandered. A few weeks? A few weeks of confusion, felling sorry for myself, and killing things I never knew could exist. But some things never change, kill enough and people start to take notice. Fell into the right crowd I suppose, the folks that don't scream and run when they see you and at least make use of your talents.
So far I have avoided asking the hard questions about myself and my situation. Get to keep myself busy with some new adventures.
But I am always looking, and always listening, and I will figure myself out one of these days..
