I had been in that ghost town for two days or so. Finally had worn out my welcome in just about every town left in the state. Folks don't take kindly to hero killers. Was gonna head west... felt like all I did was head west away from my problems. I was sleeping on the floor of what must of been a general store. I used to live in mansions but not for a long time. I was 35 by then, lot older than I figured I would get, and I certainly felt old.
I don't know how he walked into that town without me noticing, but when I looked up from my shot glass there was Ezrah King himself. No posse, no mob of enraged citizens, just him. I don't know how long we looked at eachother, felt like a second and a year all at the same time. I was gonna reach for my gun on the table, but Ezrah, he got me before I even had my hand out for it. It wasn't fair or gentlemanly but I can't blame him. I would have done it that way too.
The first hit was like a punch in the chest. Knocked me back a took all my breath.
The second one hurt like hell, and I couldnt breath any more.
The third I didnt feel. But the lights went out and I felt like I was laying on the ground.
I lay there, felt like a year, could have been a second. But it started to get fuzzy. Then I just sorted drifted away, feeling like I am going to sleep but never finally doing so.
Then things got strange
