An excerpt from "Examinations of Simultaneous Physical Probabilities and Other Queer Notions" by Randal Cobb.
There are many things that we take for granted that were previously unknown to man. Radio waves, knowledge of the atom, etc. These things, once considered the realm of magic and superstition, still existed even when we did not know about them. Now they are known to exist and can be quantified in measurements and substance. Thus it can be said that there are still ideas and beliefs that can and will be proven when our science has advanced enough.
We know for example, that the Lord God in Heaven has bestowed man with a soul above all other of his creations. We know this, despite not being able to prove its existence much in the same way ancient man knew of light and air but could not produce the measurement of. Thus it can be established that we will inevitably be able to some day shape and control a soul as well as we use iron today.
Our lack of understanding should not mean that we cannot set our minds to that future even if we cannot do so scientifically. After much study and understanding it is my belief that it is possible to allow a person to transfer their soul, their vital essence, into a new or different form. One can imagine a soul as being much as a bird and the body a nest, a bird may leave the nest but a bird is still a bird where as a nest has now become useless and without life. Death is much in the same way, a soul leaving its nest for heaven. But if a bird can return to its home, why can a soul not?
From my research, I have not found a means or idea to draw a soul back to our world once it has left the physical I believe that it is a much easier notion to take one soul and move it before a person has died. I have also heard some stories of cowboy's souls being cursed to roam the Earth. While I have done no research into such savagery it lends credence to my notion that a soul is effectable while still in a body. Can an old man not have more gumption than a man half his age? A soul must there for have an ability to far out live the physical form. Mary Shelly wrote of creating a new body from old parts, while there are other works that depict a human mind in a mechanical shell. These are creative ideas, but ultimately the realm of fantasy.
It is of my opinion then that a body, a human body must be the recipient of a transferred soul. A recently deceased body, if operated on in enough time may easily accept a new soul. The morality of such a feat would prove to be a challenge but I am confident that the bodies of recently executed convicts could serve as an agreeable source of young bodies for the world's premier minds. Until we as a species are capable of creating a new human body that already lacks a soul in it.
