Greetings soldier!
Dinosaur Swamp, as remote and hostile a wilderness as it is, holds the interest of multiple factions and political powers. Some are outside forces like the Shemarrians, while others are indigenous groups who call the place home, such as the Barbarian Tribes, Native Americans, and the Tezcats. Although "Man versus Nature" is the primary form of conflict here, the Swamp also has its share of social and political turmoil, with different cultures clashing over land, resources, and all of the other things that people historically fight over. Of course, one can't have a conversation about North American post-apocalyptic geopolitics without bringing the Coalition States (CS) into it. As the largest and most technologically advanced human nation on the continent, the CS has had strangely little to do with Dinosaur Swamp. This is surprising when one considers the caches of Golden Age technology that likely reside here, unclaimed and untouched, and everyone knows that the CS loves its Golden Age tech. Likewise, the CS has never attempted to lay claim to the region, nor did they challenge the Shemarrians' Declaration of Sovereignty. We know, based on information direct from Ingram Bostock (who is ex-Coalition), that Chi-Town used to send occasional long range exploratory teams to chart the area. However, it eventually put a halt on these activities. From what the IMCN can gather, mortality rates on these teams were too high and finds were too few to justify the loss of lives. There are also tales about the Coalition's "civilized" Psi-Stalkers who, after staying in the Swamp too long, would revert to their feral natures and go AWOL - the Swamp apparently brought something out in them. What is also a likely explanation, however, is that growing tensions with the Kingdom of Tolkeen, as well as the increasing threat of the Xiticix, began to demand too much of the Coalition's attention. In truth, the CS simply has much too much going on in the Domain of Man to be concerned with a dinosaur-infested hell hole hundreds of miles from their territory, on the other side of the Eastern Wall (the Appalachian Mountain range). For this, we should all be grateful. Though the Coalition States are official allies of the Republic of Ishpeming (which, by extension, technically means that they're our allies, as well), their presence here would most definitely cause "complications"... especially since more than a few of the expedition's Subcontractors are magic-users or D-Bees, putting them squarely in the category of "Enemies of the States." The Coalition is common knowledge and a reality of life for those of us living in the Domain of Man and surrounding areas. However, some of the individuals working for (or with) the Bostock Expedition are newcomers, whether it be new to North America or new to the dimension, in general. For our foreign guests (to whom the CS is an unknown quantity), the following information is of particular importance to you. Even those who consider themselves well informed about the Coalition might learn a thing or two from reading the attached post. While it's highly unlikely that there will be any encounters with CS forces in the Southeast (though you never know), that may not hold true once you leave the confines of Dinosaur Swamp and roam to other parts of the continent.
